The Lexington Public School system is known for academic excellence. The district consists of six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school.

In their September 2010 issue, Boston Magazine named Lexington High School the 3rd best public high school in Massachusetts!
The magazine ranked schools based on talks with school officials, research from school websites and data from the Massachusetts Department of Education. Factors examined included MCAS and SAT scores, per pupil spending, student-teacher ratios, graduation rate, percentage continuing education and extracurricular activities. Lexington High was also called out for its clubs and activities in the “Best Schools 2010: The Honor Roll.”
